OKLAHOMA CITY -- A lawmaker's plan to redistribute municipal sales tax collections could cost the state's two largest cities a combined nearly $30 million.A bill by Rep. Steve Martin, R-Bartlesville, would take 1 percent of each city's municipal sales tax revenue to benefit smaller cities, many of which have lost independent businesses and stores.Generally, smaller cities would gain money while larger cities would lose money.Oklahoma City would lose $13.4 million in annual sales tax collections and Tulsa would lose $16.1 million a year. The bill narrowly passed the House Rules Committee, and House Majority Floor Leader Greg Piatt, R-Ardmore, won't say if the bill will be scheduled for a vote on the House floor.Tulsa World: Lawmaker wants to redistribute OKC, Tulsa sales tax revenue
I realize that the little cities are getting hurt by the big ones drawing in their people to spend money at the big stores, but there has to be a better way.
